Sep 20 , 2011
Expect real Mediterranean in whichever Lisbon restaurants you choose to eat in. Though the Med influence might be more subtle in some places, it will always be there. From homely to contemporary, Lisbon has got a restaurant to please everyone’s palate.
Bocca
For high end Portuguese cuisine in Lisbon, Bocca is the only logical choice. This place opened in 2008 and didn't take long to carve a place in the hearts of Lisbon's foodies a winner. The chefs here focus on fresh ingredients and create dishes which embrace traditional Portuguese flavors. Expect to see a menu packed with the freshest seafood, innovative meat dishes, and delicious desserts. If you can't choose just a dish or two, try their taster menu of six dishes.
Pizzeria Casanova
Every pizzeria in every city ion the world claims to make the very best pizza. Outside of Italy, Pizzeria Casanova might just be able to stake that claim. It's not just about the light and crispy pizzas here though. There are pastas and meat dishes on the menu as well as excellent Italian desserts. What really makes this place stand out amongst Lisbon restaurants though is its stellar waterside setting.
A Travessa
This Belgian restaurant might seem a little out of place tucked up an alley in Lisbon but any expert on Lisbon restaurants would recommend A Travessa to you. Set in a 17th century convent, A Travessa dishes up a menu of hearty pan-European dishes including slow roasted pork, freshly baked breads, fish of the day, and succulent duck breasts. Book a table on a Saturday evening when the only thing on the menu is mussels.
Largo
This place is modern, and it's hip. The décor is smooth lines and cool design, and the menu consists of traditional Portuguese classics with a modern twist. A typical dish on the menu at Largo is fresh cod marinated in port and soy sauce; a true fusion dish that really works. You'll need to book in advance to get a table at Largo and be prepared for wall to wall fish tanks filled with jelly fish. Dress well as you'll be mixing with Lisbon's hippest folk and make sure you have enough cash so you don't have to scrimp over your options.
Gambrinus
Don't expect any design tricks or fancy menu twists at Gambrinus. What you will get though it thoroughly wholesome, honest, Portuguese grub. This is a seafood restaurant at heart and is well known as being one of the oldest and best Lisbon restaurants to serve up fresh, simply cooked fish dishes. The waiters here will deliver the very best service and can always recommend a wine to go with whatever you choose to eat.
After you've filled up on delicious food as some of the finest Lisbon restaurants, head out onto the cobbles and hit some of the Lisbon bars and clubs. If the sun's still up, continue your day with some of Lisbon's best sights.
